European Masters Championships Kranjska Gora

European Masters Championships Kranjska Gora

This past weekend the town of Kranjska Gora hosted the European MTB Masters Championships. Jed Whitfield and his wife Emma came over from the UK to stay with us for the race and to check out some of the other riding spots Slovenia has to offer. The race used one of the tracks from the bike park, but diverted over the piste at the end to finish in the village, which made for a better atmosphere and rather handily ended next to a bar! The track was a good mix of fast and technical. Jed had a good ride to finish 10th, but lost some time in the lower section which required a sprint finish, he put that down to lack of training coming into this season. I finished 22nd, had a mechanical where my rear brake failed, which made for a wild ride and crash, but that’s racing! Jed did a chest cam during training, watch it here.

We  also rode at Krvavec mountain, which has some excellent trails that the local riders have built, these are very demanding, hard on both bike and body, but the resort is now making official tracks that will also cater to more novice riders. It’s great that so many of the resorts are now recognising mountain biking and the visitors it can draw in the summer months, it’s exciting to hear of all the new trails in the making here in Slovenia! Good times….
